Location

The Müritz is located in the Mecklenburg Lake District, which is the largest lake in Germany with approximately 117 square kilometers.

On the East side of the Müritz is situated the big Müritz National Park with 318 km² and many forests.

The landscape on the West side of the Müritz is dominated by meadows, small forests and wavy fields on gently rolling hills.

Here, in the Southwest of the Müritz, you´ll find the small town Röbel with about 5,400 inhabitants.

The town was founded in the 10th century. Located on the edge of the main stronghold of the Slavic tribe called Murizaner, next to a temple mountain. A unique feature is the development of two separate settlements in the late Middle Ages. Thus the Neustadt was separated from the Old Slavic part. An approximately 400 years lasting lawsuit reinforced the distinction of both districts.

The medieval town with it´s „twin cities“ remained almost unchanged in the structure, despite the destruction by many town fires.

For many years the town experienced a boom, which is to be seen by the high number of restored buildings.

The historically well preserved, extended old city, with mostly 2-storey timbered houses from 18th and 19th centuries dominate the townscape.

Furthermore the two major churches, the different places, the civil garden, the city park, the small Mönchsteich and the position directly at the Müritz make this town unique.
